Why Bone Broth

A Simple Tradition Your Body Recognizes

For generations, slow-simmered broths have been a quiet form of nourishment — the kind of food that warms your hands, calms your nervous system, and reminds your body it's safe to soften.

When bones and connective tissues gently simmer over many hours, they release collagen, amino acids like glycine and proline, gelatin, and easy-to-absorb minerals — all of which may support gut lining integrity, joint comfort, healthy skin, and restorative sleep.

Real food. Real simple. Real supportive.

The Recipe

Nourishing Bone Broth

Prep 15 min · Simmer 12–24 hrs · Yields ~2 quarts

Ingredients

  • 3–4 lbs pasture-raised beef, chicken, or turkey bones (a mix of marrow, knuckle, and joint bones)
  • 2 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, roughly chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
  • 4–6 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 tbsp whole peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Fresh parsley, thyme, or rosemary (a small handful)
  • 1 tsp sea salt (adjust to taste at the end)
  • Filtered water to cover (about 12 cups)

Instructions

  1. Optional roast: Roast bones at 400°F for 25–30 minutes for deeper flavor.
  2. Add bones to a large stock pot or slow cooker. Pour in filtered water and apple cider vinegar. Let sit 20–30 minutes (this helps draw minerals from the bones).
  3. Add vegetables, garlic, peppercorns, bay leaves, and herbs.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to the lowest simmer. Skim off any foam that rises to the top in the first hour.
  5. Simmer uncovered or partially covered: chicken bones 12–18 hrs, beef bones 18–24 hrs.
  6. Strain through a fine mesh sieve. Season with sea salt to taste.
  7. Cool, then store in glass jars in the fridge up to 5 days, or freeze up to 3 months.
